Periodontitis, a widespread disease,
and its effects
Periodontology deals with the periodontium, also known colloquially as the gums. One of the most common diseases of the periodont (tooth bed) is periodontitis. It is an inflammatory disease of the gums that is caused by plaque bacteria in the teeth. There are many signs of periodontitis. Red and swollen gums, receding gums, bleeding gums when touched, long tooth necks, loosening of the tooth, bad breath (halitosis), bone resportion and pain in the tooth and gums.
A serious knock-on impact can be tooth loss. So, if you notice any of the above-mentioned signs, you should consult your dentist immediately. Periodontal disease can be prevented very effectively with regular and individual prophylaxis. However, more than half of all adults in Germany suffer from periodontitis. Greater neglect of periodontitis can even lead to an increased risk of stroke and heart attack as the bacteria spread throughout the bloodstream.
Our options
Periodontitis is one of the most common bacterial infectious diseases, which can cause long-term and serious dental damage. These dental diseases and damage to your teeth have a direct impact on your smile and quality of life. It is therefore better to take prophylactic precautions than to react worryingly to problems that arise.
However, these can be largely avoided through modern and coordinated preventive measures as part of dental prophylaxis at iDent. In order to guarantee the best possible success, we recommend carrying out a prophylactic examination with professional tooth cleaning (PZR) twice a year. Of course, regular brushing and daily flossing are the foundation for healthy teeth. To completely remove plaque and tartar, you should seek professional help and visit your dentist regularly.
Using microbiological tests, we at iDent in Offenbach-Bieber can quickly detect bone-dissolving bacteria and can usually completely cure acute periodontitis. For the treatment we use laser-assisted applications and the Periflow powder jet method. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
